The new addition...Acadia Marie!!

7 lbs, 11 oz, 20.5 inches long

"Acadia...what a different name. It's pretty. Where did you come up with that? Does it mean something? Did you say Katy Anne?" Yep, we hear that all the time so therefore, here's the answer...

Bryan's parents are from bayou country and we have cajun roots. In the 1600's, many French adventurers settled in Acadia, what is now Nova Scotia. The British soon conquered the area and the King of England demanded that everyone living there swear allegiance to him and to his religion, the Church of England. If they chose not to do so they would be expelled. This didn't sit well with the Acadians who were proud Catholics so they left and most headed to the other big French-speaking area in the new world, Louisiana. Upon arriving, the locals had a hard time understanding them with their peculiar "northern" accent. They asked where they came from. The response, "Je suis Acadian," or I'm Acadian. The "DI" was prounounced with a "J" sound so the Louisiana locals heard, "Je suis un cajun," or I'm a cajun. Hence her name! (although we don't pronounce it with a "J" sound - it's uh-caid-ee-yuh)

Acadia at nine weeks with an already killer smile :-)
